Testing

Revisie werkplaats

Burton Car Company is committed to providing top quality products. That goes for all our reconditioned parts for the Citroën 2CV aswell. To guarantee the quality of our remanufactured products they are tested individually. These parts will leave our reconditioning shop only after a extensive test. That way we can offer product that are almost plug-and-play, which we are happy to provide with a one year full warranty.

All our engines and carburettors are mounted to an engine stand, which enables us to test these product at different engine loads and RPMs. This engine dynomometer is of the eddy current type and operates by means of electromagnetism. Simply stated, it is an electric motor which can give an opposing torque with respect to the engine. This way we can test an engine or carburettor at full or partial load at any engine speed. The engine dyno is cooled by water in order to prevent overheating. In order to control the air/fuel mixture a broadband lambda sensor is fitted to the exhaust of the engine test stand. This Lambda probe enables precise monitoring of the air/fuel mixture while the engine is running.

Engines

The engine dyno test takes at least 20 minutes and begins with a warm-up phase. During this warm-up, the motor runs at 2500 rpm and a load of 25%. While the engines is heating up for the first time, it is checked for leaks and sufficient oil pressure. When the engine oil has reached a temperature of 80 degrees Celsius the main test phase starts. The engine runs at full load momentarily and revs up through its entire RPM range. At the same time, oil pressure, torque, power and the air/fuel mixture are carefully monitored. After this phase the engine will idle for a few minutes, while a mechanic checks the running engine over for the second time for any traces of oil. Only when the engine is free from leaks and has a clean bill of health will it leave the reconditioning workshop. Each and every engine is tested this way so we can guarantee a high quality product.

Carburettors

Aswell as our engines, all our new or remanufactured carburettors are tested thoroughly. The carburettors are mounted to an engine which sits on the engine dynomometer. With the engine running the air/fuel mixture is checked. With the aforementioned A/F meter we have a precise insight in the A/F mixture at every load and at any engine speed possible. When the air/fuel mixture does not meet the norm, the carburettor is adjusted to meet the required value by changing out the fuel jets. The idle speed and the corresponding mixture (CO-percentage) will also be tuned as close to perfection as possible. Despite all our checks and adjustments, it may be necessary to make some fine adjustments or changes in the jets once the carburettor is mounted to your 2CV, Dyane, Méhari or Ami. This is especially true for 2CV’s that are modified in any way, for example with a non-standard air-filter of Power Tube.
