Dismantling the donor car
Before you start dismantling the car, remove mud, sand and dirt. This way you can keep your workarea and tools clean. Make sure you know which parts will be reused in the Burton. Drain the oil from the engine, gearbox and brake fluid reservoir.
When you are dismantling the car, label parts and store them in boxes together with their nuts and bolts, screws etc. Storing and labelling all parts neatly will save you a lot work when reassembling the chassis. It is also a good idea to make as many (digital) photographs as possible.
In this manual we mention the terms “left” and “right”. By left, we mean your left side when you are sitting in the car. If you don’t want to buy a new Burton wiring harness, then try to keep the original wiring intact, even if you will not use it. It will be useful as an example if you are making a new set. Also, put labels on the all connections, so you know which wire was connected to which part. Warning: Citroën workshop manuals are often not correct when it comes to wire colours. If you want to install a new chassis, make sure you know the legal procedure in your country. You may need certain documents or even a government official to check the donor car before you start. |
